Affiliation & Collaboration:
Established in 1993 as Türkiye’s first dedicated sleep research unit. It is an accredited center of the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS) and serves as the primary academic hub for the Turkish Sleep Medicine Society. It maintains long-standing research collaborations with major European neurological institutes.

Research areas:
Neurobiology of sleep-wake transitions, REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder (RBD) as a biomarker for neurodegeneration, sleep architecture in epilepsy, and the impact of sleep-disordered breathing on stroke recovery.

Current focus:
The center is currently utilizing high-density EEG and longitudinal patient registries to investigate the spatiotemporal brain dynamics during sleep. A major research priority is identifying early neurological indicators in patients with parasomnias and REM-related disorders to predict future neurodegenerative onset.

Based within Hacettepe University Hospitals, a premier government-run research institution. The center operates as a multidisciplinary academic hub between the Departments of Chest Diseases and Neurology and serves as a primary training site for national sleep medicine accreditation.

Research areas:
Respiratory sleep disorders, Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) phenotypes, the role of sleep in chronic respiratory failure, and the impact of sleep quality on inflammatory and systemic diseases.

Current focus:
The center is currently focused on evaluating the relationship between sleep quality, geriatric syndromes, and disease activity in older adult cohorts. Additional research emphasizes the impact of sleep disorders on workplace productivity and the investigation of sleep-related biomarkers in patients with complex respiratory comorbidities.
