The Sleep Society is a global, interdisciplinary network of committed sleep-focused healthcare professionals and researchers dedicated to advancing sleep health and public safety through personal awareness, connection, communication and collaboration, while promoting education and clinical integration. We bring together expertise across medical, dental, behavioural, respiratory, technical, research and academic disciplines to strengthen professional connections and, where possible and wished, encourage the development of local ‘Sleep Teams’.
The Sleep Society works to improve patient access and promote evidence-based care, while providing a valuable public resource through increased professional visibility and access to our directory. At the same time, we advocate for and encourage membership in other local, national and global associations.
Sleep disorders and insufficient quality sleep have reached epidemic proportions, yet gaps in professional visibility and interdisciplinary integration continue to limit patient access to many experienced providers and a comprehensive professional directory strengthens connection, communication and collaboration, while improved professional and public visibility supports access, cross-referral and the development of local ‘Sleep Teams’.
We can’t all work in a multidisciplinary clinic, but we can all work within a multidisciplinary group or ‘Sleep Team’.
The Sleep Society supports the development of these relationships at both interdisciplinary and discipline-specific levels. Initiatives such as the Canadian Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (CADSM) and Canadian Academy of Sleep Science & Technology (CASST) are intended to strengthen connections between professionals with shared expertise within the wider interdisciplinary ‘Sleep Team’ approach. We encourage members to maintain and strengthen their relationships with their existing professional and national associations for the services and regulations they provide.
Healthcare professionals increasingly need reliable, evidence-based education and access to current research while navigating a growing volume of misinformation. The Sleep Society provides access to educational resources, research, teaching and professional opportunities from reliable sources worldwide. Modern technology means that professional learning and collaboration are no longer limited by geography.
For the public, there is an equally important need for understandable, accurate and evidence-based sleep education. The Sleep Society supports and shares reliable public-facing resources from national and international organisations and is developing its own public sleep education resources to help people better understand sleep, sleep disorders and where to find appropriate care.
Through SleepSafeCanada, The Sleep Society is extending the SleepSafe theme beyond the healthcare professions and into the wider community. Its National Sleep Calendar addresses 12 important sleep-related topics and, together with specialist associations and community involvement at governmental, business, institutional and public levels, provides a framework for public education around the many ways in which sleep affects health, safety, work, transportation and everyday life. It also provides a model that can be adapted and transferred to other countries.
Our annual hybrid international sleep event, “Sleep Kelowna, ”hosted in Kelowna, British Columbia, is not intended to become another definitive national sleep conference. Rather, it provides a practical example of what professionals from different disciplines can achieve when they connect locally, share their expertise and invite colleagues from elsewhere to participate. It brings together clinical, scientific and public-health perspectives while demonstrating the ‘Sleep Team’ philosophy in practice.
Sleep professionals need ready access to current research: what is being investigated, who is doing it, where it is happening and how emerging evidence may change clinical practice. Today’s research is tomorrow’s treatment. The Sleep Society aims to strengthen the pathways through which scientific progress, clinical innovation, professional opportunities and public health and safety initiatives can be shared across disciplines and regions.
The Sleep Society is proud to support the development of ‘Sleep Teams’, regardless of how big or small they may be or where they are located. Each can become a local point of professional connection and a beacon for those seeking knowledgeable, appropriate sleep care.
The Sleep Society turns interdisciplinary connection into practical opportunities for sleep professionals and the public. We provide a global professional directory, encourage the development of local ‘Sleep Teams’, share education, research and professional opportunities, and provide a platform through which members can communicate, collaborate and share their expertise. By building international contacts and, in many cases, friendships, we make the sleep world a bigger place that feels smaller.
We support discipline-specific professional development through initiatives including CADSM and CASST, while encouraging continued involvement with existing national and professional associations. Through SleepSafe initiatives, we extend evidence-based sleep health and safety education into the wider community.
Our annual hybrid sleep event in Kelowna demonstrates what a local interdisciplinary community can achieve when professionals connect, collaborate and share their knowledge with colleagues locally, nationally and internationally.
Our role is not to replace what already exists, but to connect it, and to help individuals, disciplines and organisations achieve more together.
No individual, discipline, association or society knows everything or can provide everything. The Sleep Society recognises the value of the many organisations and individuals already working to improve sleep health and seeks to connect rather than replace them.
We can’t all be good at everything, and we don’t need to be. We need to know what we don’t know – and we need to know and work with people who know what we don’t.
That is the principle behind The Sleep Society: bringing people, professions and organisations together so that knowledge, experience and opportunity can be shared, ultimately improving sleep health, patient care and public safety. We work toward a coordinated Sleep Health Initiative and greater collaboration between multidisciplinary professionals within local ‘Sleep Teams’.
The map shows the countries where we have members. To find the right provider in your area, use the professional group search to filter by discipline and location.

Sleep disorders and insufficient quality sleep affect billions of people worldwide, yet care remains fragmented. Meaningful progress requires interdisciplinary collaboration and global connectivity on a personal basis. The Sleep Society exists to advance that individual integration and promotes sleep as a foundation for health and safety. It exists, not to compete with, but to compliment existing sleep societies and associations – to support and promote the connection with, and membership in them to rurther strengthen our common goal – awareness, better sleep for individualls and society. sleep groups, associations, societies and study clubs.
