The Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine (SBSM) is the leading professional organization dedicated to advancing the science and practice of Behavioral Sleep Medicine. The Society promotes the study and treatment of sleep disorders through evidence-based behavioral, psychological, and physiological approaches, with particular emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and other non-pharmacological interventions in clinical practice and research.

British Sleep Society (BSS – UK)


The British Sleep Society (BSS) is the principal professional organization dedicated to advancing sleep science, sleep medicine, and sleep health in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1989, the Society brings together clinicians, researchers, psychologists, scientists, technologists, and other professionals with an interest in sleep and circadian biology. American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM)

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) is the leading professional organization dedicated to advancing sleep medicine and sleep health. Founded in 1975, the Academy represents physicians, scientists, sleep technologists, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. The AASM develops standards, clinical guidelines, and accreditation programs for sleep medicine.

Sleep Research Society (SRS)

The Sleep Research Society (SRS) is one of the world’s leading scientific organizations dedicated to advancing sleep and circadian science. Founded in 1961, the Society promotes basic, translational, clinical, and population-based research related to sleep and circadian rhythms. Membership includes researchers, clinicians, educators, trainees, and healthcare professionals from around the world, including Canada and internationally.

World Sleep Society (WSS)

The World Sleep Society (WSS) is the leading international organization dedicated to advancing sleep health worldwide. Formed through the merger of the World Association of Sleep Medicine and the World Sleep Federation, the Society promotes sleep health, education, research, and professional development globally. WSS brings together sleep professionals, researchers, educators, and organizations from around the world and internationally.

Canadian Sleep Society (CSS).

The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) is a credentialing organization for sleep technologists. Established in 1978, the BRPT administers the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential, widely recognized internationally for professionals performing polysomnography and related sleep diagnostic procedures. Many Canadian sleep technologists hold the RPSGT credential and participate in BRPT educational and professional activities.

Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)

The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) is the world’s leading credentialing organization for sleep technologists. Established in 1978, the BRPT administers the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential, widely recognized as an international standard for professionals performing polysomnography and related sleep diagnostic procedures. Many Canadian sleep technologists hold the RPSGT credential and participate in BRPT activities.

Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT)

The Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) is the national professional association representing respiratory therapists across Canada. Founded in 1964, the Society supports excellence in respiratory care through education, professional development, advocacy, research, and leadership. Respiratory therapists play an important role in sleep medicine, including sleep testing, PAP therapy, patient education, and sleep-disordered breathing management.

Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS)

The Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS) is Canada’s national professional society dedicated to respiratory health, lung disease, and respiratory medicine. As the medical arm of the Canadian Lung Association, the Society provides leadership in clinical practice, education, research, and advocacy. Sleep medicine is represented through physicians and researchers involved in sleep-disordered breathing, obstructive sleep apnea, and related disorders.
